Thank you for using Pinpin, an iOS app that analyzes and saves places found in Instagram posts and Reels so you can revisit them on a map.
01 · SUPPORT
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Instagram links can I use?
Public post and Reel links are supported. Private, deleted, login- or age-restricted posts, and content restricted by Instagram may not be analyzed.
Why couldn't Pinpin find a place?
Pinpin looks for clues in public metadata, captions, location tags, and thumbnails. If these are unavailable, select up to 10 screenshots showing the place name or address and try again.
Does Pinpin access all my photos?
No. Pinpin loads only the images you choose through the iOS photo picker. Text recognition is performed on device with Apple Vision.
Are screenshots sent outside my device?
The original images are not sent to OpenAI. Text recognized on device is sent with the Instagram link and public post information to the OpenAI API to extract place names and map queries. Do not select screenshots containing sensitive information.
Where is my data stored?
Saved source links, extracted text, thumbnails, places, favorites, and notes are stored on your device by default. Pinpin currently provides no account, server sync, or automatic cross-device backup. Deleting the app deletes this on-device data.
Which maps are used?
Places in Korea can open in Naver Map or KakaoMap; places elsewhere open in Google Maps. A web page may open if the relevant app is unavailable.
When is the clipboard read?
Pinpin may use iOS pattern detection to offer import when the clipboard appears to contain an Instagram URL. The URL is read when you paste or start the suggested import.
How do I report a problem?
Email your device model, iOS and app versions, the step where the issue occurred, and the displayed error. Remove or obscure personal information from links and screenshots.
02 · PRIVACY
Privacy Policy
The operator of Pinpin (“we”) respects your privacy and seeks to comply with applicable privacy laws.
2.1 Information processed and purposes
Pinpin has no account registration and does not require your name, phone number, or email address. The following may be processed to provide the app:
| Category | Information | How obtained | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Place import | Original/normalized Instagram URL, post type and shortcode, public metadata, caption, location tag, thumbnail, and text recognized from the thumbnail | From the public Instagram page after you enter a link | Identify place clues and extract place, address, country, category, and map query |
| Screenshot analysis | Up to 10 selected images and on-device OCR text | Images selected by you in the iOS photo picker | Supplement place analysis |
| Saved places | Name, address, city, country code, category, coordinates, map links/queries, confidence, timestamps | Results reviewed and saved by you | Display, search, group, and open places on maps |
| Personalization | Favorites and notes | Your input | Personalize saved places |
| Analytics | Feature events, status, bucketed counts/lengths/durations, domestic/overseas category, app-instance, device, OS, app, and approximate IP-based region data | Firebase Analytics SDK | Usage and error analysis; product improvement |
| Advertising | IP address, device/OS/app data, ad impressions, clicks, interactions, identifiers, and diagnostics | Google Mobile Ads SDK | Ads, frequency control, reporting, fraud prevention, and measurement |
| In-app purchases | Product and transaction identifiers, purchase and expiration dates, revocation status, entitlement status, and usage count | Provided by Apple StoreKit and checked or recorded locally by the app | Process purchases, verify paid access and remaining usage, remove ads, and restore purchases |
| Support | Email, message, and voluntarily attached information | Provided by you | Respond to requests and improve the service |
Firebase Analytics events do not include Instagram URLs or shortcodes, place names, addresses, city names, coordinates, map queries, search input, notes, OCR results, post captions, images, thumbnails, API keys, or internal UUIDs. Counts and lengths are bucketed, and country scope is sent only as domestic, overseas, mixed, or unknown.
2.2 OpenAI API
To extract place names and map queries, Pinpin sends the Instagram URL, text from the public page, and on-device OCR text from thumbnails and selected screenshots to the OpenAI Responses API over encrypted connections. Original screenshot and thumbnail images are not sent. Requests use store: false. OpenAI may retain abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days by default, with legal or safety exceptions, and API data is not used to train models without explicit consent. See OpenAI API data controls.
2.3 On-device storage and retention
Source URLs, post identifiers and types, extracted/OCR text, thumbnails, saved places, favorites, and notes are stored locally with SwiftData until you delete the place or app. Deleting the final place from a post also deletes its source-post data. To provide paid access, Pinpin may store a transaction-based period key and free, rewarded, and paid analysis usage counts on your device. Apple manages the underlying purchase and subscription records under its App Store policies. iOS backups are governed by your settings and Apple's policies. Support correspondence is kept only as needed to answer requests, resolve disputes, or satisfy law.
2.4 Service providers and international processing
| Provider | Purpose | Data | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI, L.L.C. | AI place extraction | Instagram URL, public text, OCR text, request/response metadata | store: false; abuse logs generally up to 30 days, subject to exceptions |
| Google LLC | Firebase Analytics | Events, bucketed parameters, app-instance, device/OS/app data, approximate IP-based location | Google policies and Analytics settings |
| Google LLC and AdMob demand partners | Ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention | IP, device/OS/app data, ad identifiers, interactions, diagnostics | Provider policies |
| Apple Inc. | App Store purchases, subscription management, purchase restoration, and refunds | Apple Account and payment information; product, transaction, and subscription information | Apple Privacy Policy and App Store policies |
Data may be processed outside your country. Pinpin does not receive your card number or bank-account details; Apple processes payment information. Opening Instagram posts or map links is governed by the policies of Meta, Naver, Kakao, or Google. See Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy, Google partner-sites policy, Meta Privacy Policy, Naver Privacy Policy, and Kakao Privacy Policy.
2.5 Advertising and tracking
Pinpin does not request App Tracking Transparency permission or directly collect IDFA. AdMob may process IP address, device and app data, publisher first-party identifiers, and ad interactions according to law, region, consent, and Google settings even when IDFA is unavailable.
2.6 Permissions
- Photos: only images you select through the iOS picker, for on-device text recognition.
- Clipboard: pattern detection and a URL you choose to paste or import.
- Camera, microphone, notifications, and location: not currently requested.
2.7 Your choices and deletion
Delete saved places, notes, and favorites in place details; delete the app to remove all local Pinpin data. Deleting the app does not cancel a Pinpin Pro Monthly subscription; cancel it in App Store subscription management. Refund requests are handled under Apple's policies and procedures. Contact unnnyong@icloud.com for access, correction, deletion, restriction, analytics, or advertising questions. You may decline AI processing by not providing links or screenshots, but place import will then be unavailable.
2.8 Security
We use encrypted transmission, data minimization, bucketed analytics, and local storage where appropriate. No electronic storage or transmission method is completely secure.
2.9 Changes
We may revise this policy when laws, features, or providers change. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this support page.
